Are you ready for the Angels to take flight in Paris?
This year, the 2016 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show will take place in the City of Lights, and every aspect of the show will be beautiful, breathtaking, and unique.
The show, airing on Dec. 5 at 10/9c on CBS and CBS All Access, features six different fashion segments, 39 pairs of wings, and 68 different runway looks. Plus, chart-toppers like The Weeknd, Lady Gaga, and Bruno Mars will belt out their biggest hits as the Angels strut the runway.
This year's assembly of Angels includes returning favorites Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Lily Aldridge, Elsa Hosk, Jasmine Tookes, Josephine Skriver, Lais Ribeiro, Martha Hunt, Romee Strijd, Sara Sampaio, Stella Maxwell, and Taylor Hill, as well as 37 of the world's best known runway stars, including Karlie Kloss, Kendall Jenner, and Gigi Hadid.
The show will be held at the iconic Grand Palais.
True to Beaux-Arts architecture, the Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées features ornate decorations in stone and iron and steel framing. The iconic space, which is about 790 feet in length, features a giant glass roof and a magnificent grand staircase that will truly take the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show to soaring new heights.
"The Road Ahead"
The looks in this segment will feature a variety of brilliant colors, patterns, and styles from across the globe. Nepalese artist and jewelry designer Arpana Rayamajhi was instrumental in creating the unique, multi-cultural feel for this segment by hand-beading and weaving each individual embellishment, including coins from Nepal!
"Secret Angel"
Described by Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Creative Director Sophia Neophitou-Apostolou, the "Secret Angel" segment's wings reflect the look of "a seductress that holds no prisoners."
Speaking of wings, this year welcomes the return of Marian "Killer" Hose, who has been a long-time artisan for the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. She has earned her title of "Wing Maker," as she's the genius behind many of the show's iconic looks since 2009. Standouts include Joan Smalls' spinning wheel-inspired wings from 2015 and the clam-inspired wings worn by Lindsay Ellington in 2012.
"Mountain Romance"
This segment's looks are a "bit of a Heidi on the hill," said Creative Director Sophia Neophitou-Apostolou.
Jeff Fender Studio Inc. adds an entirely different element to this year's show, though you may have seen his brilliant work in the past—he hand-painted Taylor Swift's elaborate British-themed costume in 2013. Known for creating custom fabrics for all types of entertainment, Fender's team painstakingly hand-painted each look before it was steamed, rinsed, framed, waxed, and hand-painted again to truly capture the producers' super feminine and playful vision.
"PINK Nation"
Designer Nicola Formichetti was tapped to create the PINK Nation segment ensembles, which boast a more playful and sporty element. Using different shades of pink, including light lavender, begonia, and copper, Formichetti perfectly combines his own street style with PINK's voice in what's sure to be a captivating and unique segment.
"Dark Angel"
Taking a more gothic spin on a dark seductress, Barak's Striblings' fashion house, By Barak LLC, created unique pieces—including beautifully handcrafted black leather leaves.. Keep an eye out for his detailed, hand-woven leather pieces in this year's "Dark Angel" segment of the show!
"Bright Night Angel"
Inspired by girls who are happy to live in the moment, this segment features vibrant, fun, and sparkly ensembles. Again, By Barak LLC was instrumental in creating looks for this segment, providing hand-beaded bodysuits designed to fit each individual model like a glittering glove, truly capturing the Angels' carpe diem attitude.
The Weeknd returns to the runway.
Since making his studio album debut with Kiss Land in 2013, The Weeknd has achieved wild success. His achievements include being the first artist to hold three consecutive slots on Billboard's Hot R&B Song Chart, two GRAMMY Awards, Eight Billboard Music Awards, and nine Juno Awards.
Oh, and he performed two of his hit songs during the 2015 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. With the recent release of his third album, Starboy, we can't wait to hear this Canadian crooner sing on the runway.
Prepare to "Applause" for Lady Gaga.
As one of the best-selling musicians of all time, this pop sensation needs no introduction. Among a slew of other accolades and achievements, Gaga garnered 12 Guinness World Records, six GRAMMY Awards, and received a Fashion Icon Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. We can't wait to hear what the "Perfect Illusion" songstress has in store!
Bruno Mars will definitely set this party off right.
This Hawaiian native is a true jack-of-all-trades. Not only is he a singer, songwriter, record producer, and choreographer, Mars also plays guitar, keyboards, drums, and the harmonica.
Aside from topping the charts with hits like "Uptown Funk" and "Locked Out of Heaven," Mars has been the mastermind behind other hits, writing songs for the likes of Adam Levine and Flo Rida. After his epic performance at the 50th Annual Superbowl this past February, there's no telling what Mars has in store for this iconic night in fashion.
