Haegue Yang Unveils “Quasi - Pagan Seasonal Shift” at Aïshti by the Sea

    23 january 2017

Korean artist, Haegue Yang, who is based between Berlin and Seoul, has displayed ten sculptures called The Intermediates throughout two floors of Aïshti by the Sea. Running until mid-February, these anthropomorphic figures are made with woven artificial straw, which celebrates a traditional Korean handcraft technique and address the particularity and universality of cultures. By using artificial straw, Haegue Yang appropriates the idea of origin and tradition.

The installation is enhanced by a background soundtrack: Le Sacre du Printemps by Igor Stravinsky. Haegue Yang's sculptures could be seen as a sculptural equivalent to the anticlassicism of Stravinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps, which represents a sacred pagan ritual.

The "Quasi - Pagan Seasonal Shift" is produced in collaboration with Galerie Chantal Crousel, Paris.
