THE son of stricken F1 hero Michael Schumacher has opened up about his "role model" father for the first time.
Budding racing driver Mick is aiming to follow in his dad's illustrious footsteps when he makes his Formula 3 debut this year.
But despite his decorated family name, the 18-year-old has reportedly never spoken out publicly about his father - until now.
During training in Spielberg, Austria this week, Mick told RTL why he looks up to his seven time F1 champion dad.
He said: "My role model is my dad. Simply because it is the best. My idol."
The Schumacher family were rocked when the ex-Ferrari ace suffered horrific head injuries due to a tragic skiing accident in the Alps in 2013.
Much like his distraught family, Mick has kept quiet about the health of his father, whose accident has left the Schumachers "very sad".
More heartbreak hit the family this month after he lost his favourite uncle to cancer.
But now Mick is stepping into the limelight as he follows his dream to become Formula One World Champion.
